Malaysia’s Selangor Immigration Department (JIM) detained 112 migrants, including 87 Bangladeshis, during raids on various establishments in Kajang, Selangor.
The raids began at 9am on Wednesday and were conducted under four separate operations — “Ops Belanja”, “Ops Minyak”, “Ops Mahir” and “Ops Selera” — involving 20 immigration officers.
Mohammad Khusairi Kamaruddin, deputy director of the Selangor Immigration Department’s Enforcement Division, said immigration documents and the legal status of 114 migrants were checked during the operations.
Of them, 112 were detained for allegedly committing various immigration offences.
The detainees included 87 Bangladeshis, 13 Indonesians, five Myanmar nationals and seven Pakistanis. They were aged between 14 and 52, with 98 men and 14 women among those detained.
In a statement issued on Thursday (20 August), Khusairi said preliminary investigations found that the detainees allegedly violated Section 6(1)(c) of Malaysia’s Immigration Act 1959/63, which covers cases involving a lack of valid documents or a valid pass to remain in the country.
They were also suspected of violating Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act by remaining in Malaysia after the expiry of their valid passes or permits, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
The 112 detainees were taken to the Immigration Department’s office for further investigation and action.
The Selangor Immigration Department said further measures would be taken against them in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
