The Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) on Friday distributed emergency food and medicine among flood-affected people in Chattogram as part of its humanitarian response to the recent floods caused by prolonged heavy rainfall.
According to a press release, the relief programme is being carried out under the guidance of ZRF Vice-President Dr Zubaida Rahman and the overall supervision of the foundation’s Executive Director Dr Farhad Halim Donar.
The initiative, which has been continuing for the past five days, aims to support people stranded by floodwaters in different parts of Chattogram.
The programme was formally inaugurated with the distribution of relief among flood-affected residents near Sholoshahar Railway Station in the city on Friday afternoon.
Relief distribution was conducted at two locations. The first programme was held at Khillapara near Baradighi in Hathazari upazila, while the second took place at Sholoshahar Railway Station in Chattogram city.
The relief packages included flattened rice, molasses, puffed rice, chanachur, biscuits, powdered milk, oral rehydration saline and other essential items. Basic medicines and primary healthcare support were also provided to those in need.
At the Hathazari programme, 120 relief packages were distributed in the presence of Professor Dr Md Shafiqul Islam, a member of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Prof Dr Md Ahsanul Haque, divisional monitor of the foundation in Chattogram, and local BNP leaders and activists.
The Sholoshahar programme was attended by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, Chattogram-10 MP Sayeed Al Noman, leaders of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB), and other dignitaries. A total of 50 relief packages were distributed at the venue.
The foundation said Dr Zubaida Rahman provided overall guidance for the relief campaign, which aims to stand by families affected by the ongoing floods.
