Postal Department to ensure quick, safe delivery of silk products

Staff Reporter:

The Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board (BSDB), Silk Industry Owners Association and Bangladesh Postal Department have agreed to work together to ensure quick, safe and efficient delivery of the country’s traditional silk products to customers.

A coordination meeting was held at the BSDB conference room on Thursday, where participants discussed using the Postal Department’s network and modern services to improve the production, marketing and supply chain of silk products.

Presided over by BSDB Director General Taufiq Al Mahmud, the meeting stressed establishing Rajshahi as a key silk hub in the logistics and e-commerce network and providing easier delivery services for silk entrepreneurs.

Speakers said the initiative would help reduce dependence on middlemen, expand the silk market and allow grassroots entrepreneurs to benefit directly.

The meeting discussed setting up special booths at Rajshahi GPO and important post offices for parcel booking, ensuring faster domestic delivery through postal services with digital tracking facilities, and providing quality packaging support for silk products.

The participants also stressed reducing customs-related complications to facilitate delivery of silk products to expatriates and foreign buyers.

Taufiq Al Mahmud said a modern and accessible supply system was essential for the sustainable growth of the silk industry. He hoped postal and e-commerce support would create new opportunities for marketing silk products.

Representatives of the Postal Department, Silk Industry Owners Association and leading silk industries attended the meeting and expressed commitment to strengthening cooperation for the development of the sector.
