In the same period, the government plans to increase electricity generation capacity to 35,000 megawatts and expand transmission lines to 25,000 circuit kilometres.

In addition, the first unit of the 2,400MW Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to supply 1,200MW of electricity to the national grid in January 2027.

According to the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, a total allocation of Tk17,345 crore has been proposed for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

In FY26, the allocation for this sector was Tk16,952 crore, reflecting the importance of the power and energy sector.
