Three people, including a husband and wife, were killed when a passenger bus ran over an auto-van in Sirajganj’s Belkuchi upazila on Friday morning.
The accident occurred around 6:00am near the Meghulla bus stand. The identities of the victims could not be immediately known.
Confirming the incident, Belkuchi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Humayun Kabir Hanif said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus travelling from Enayetpur struck the auto-van near the bus stand, leaving the couple and the vehicle’s driver dead on the spot.
The couple’s daughter was injured in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment, he added.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Zafar said police rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident and launched rescue operations. Efforts are currently underway to remove the accident-hit bus from the road and restore normal traffic movement.
