Sunken bus recovered from Padma River, no casualties reported

Staff Reporter:

The bus that plunged into the Padma River after losing control at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat No. 7 in Goalanda Upazila of Rajbari has been recovered.

The recovery operation was completed at around 12:00pm on Friday with the assistance of the salvage vessel Hamza. The driver and his helper were rescued alive.

The bus had fallen into the river at approximately 9:30am. Earlier reports indicate that all passengers had been asked to disembark before the vehicle attempted to board the ferry, preventing any casualties.

Confirming the incident, Mohammad Salahuddin, Assistant General Manager of the BIWTC Daulatdia Ghat office, said that the Dhaka-bound SB Paribahan bus lost control and fell into the Padma River from the pontoon at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat No. 7.

He added that no one has been reported missing and that all passengers had already gotten off the bus before the accident.

Afroza Parveen said the bus was lifted from the river after about two and a half hours of efforts. As there were no passengers inside the vehicle, no casualties occurred.
