The government has promoted seven senior police officials to the rank of additional inspector general of police (additional IGP) in a major reshuffle within the police administration.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued two separate notifications in this regard on Thursday. The notifications were signed by Tawsif Ahmed, deputy secretary of the Police-1 Section under the ministry.
According to one of the notifications, two officials have been promoted to the rank of Grade -1 additional IGP.
The promoted officials are Md Delwar Hossain Mia, currently serving as additional IGP of Highway Police, and AKM Awlad Hossain, additional IGP at Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
In a separate notification, five deputy inspector general (DIG)-ranked officers were promoted to Grade-2 additional IGP.
The promoted officers are Md Mushfequr Rahman, DIG of Sylhet Range; Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, director (DIG) of National Security Intelligence (NSI); Md Moniruzzaman, DIG of Chattogram Range; Faruk Ahmed, additional director general (DIG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Rezaul Karim Mallick, DIG of Dhaka Range.
The notifications stated that the promoted officials will have to submit their joining letters to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs through the appropriate authorities.
The promotion orders, issued in the public interest, will take effect from the date the officials join their new positions, according to the ministry notifications.
