Four killed as private car crashes into gas cylinder-laden truck

Staff Reporter:

Four people, including the driver, were killed after a private car crashed into the rear of a truck loaded with gas cylinders on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila early Tuesday.

The accident occurred around 3:45am in the Maligram area of the upazila. The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.

According to police and local sources, the private car, which was heading towards Bhanga, lost control and slammed into the back of the gas cylinder-laden truck travelling ahead of it. The impact left the car severely mangled and critically injured all six occupants.

Upon receiving information, members of the highway police and Fire Service rushed to the scene and rescued the victims before taking them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.

Doctors on duty declared four of the injured dead, including the driver and three passengers. The deceased included two men and two women.

Shibchar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying both the damaged car and the truck have been taken into police custody.

Legal proceedings in connection with the accident are underway, he added.
