Man, son killed in Ctg road crash, BRTC bus torched

Staff Reporter:

A man and his teenage son were killed after a BRTC bus collided with their motorcycle in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Monday morning.

Angry locals set the bus on fire immediately after the accident.

The deceased were Mohammad Shahjahan, 46, and his son Arif, 16, residents of Paindong union in the upazila.

Local people said the incident occurred when a speeding BRTC bus collided with the motorbike in the Bibirhat area around 9:50am, leaving the duo critically injured.

They were taken to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

The bus also hit an autorickshaw at the spot, leaving three of its passengers injured.

As the accidents sparked outrage among locals, they later set the bus on fire.

Fatikchhari police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Rabiul Alam Khan said firefighters quickly rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control.

The incidents halted traffic movement on the road for about an hour before police dispersed the agitated crowd and restored vehicular movement, he said.

“Police apprehended the bus driver and legal action in this connection was underway,” the OC added.
