6 killed in separate road accidents during Eid-ul-Azha rush

Staff Reporter:

At least six people were killed and several others injured in a series of road accidents across Bangladesh as holiday travel increased ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

In Natore’s Singra upazila, two young men were killed and another seriously injured when a mango-laden mini-truck crushed their motorcycle on the Natore-Bogura highway near Amtali Bridge on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Mukhtar Hossain Hira of Natore Sadar and Jibon Rahman of Lalpur upazila. The injured victim, Saiful Islam, was first taken to Natore Sadar Hospital before being referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as his condition deteriorated.

Police said the three cousins were traveling on the same motorcycle when the accident occurred.

In a separate incident in the same upazila on Sunday night, a woman identified as Asma Khatun, 45, died after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in the Pangasia Bazar area.

Meanwhile, in Lalmonirhat’s Aditmari upazila, a young woman named Tania was killed after a truck struck the motorcycle she was riding on with her brother-in-law, Abdul Momin, a police constable. The accident occurred near Jamtala Madrasa on Sunday afternoon. Momin sustained injuries while the truck fled the scene.

Another tragic accident occurred in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila, where 25-year-old Tanzila Akter Liza was killed after being hit by a passenger bus on Sunday afternoon. She was reportedly traveling with her father to attend an Eid family gathering when the accident took place near Cheragpur.

In a separate incident in Dinajpur’s Bochaganj upazila, local businessman Swapan died early Monday while undergoing treatment after his motorcycle collided with a moving auto-rickshaw on Sunday night.

Police have launched investigations into the incidents. The accidents have cast a shadow over Eid preparations, renewing concerns over road safety as millions of people prepare to travel across the country for the holiday.
