Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on citizens to stand beside those who are directly and indirectly contributing to nation-building efforts.
He made the call on Saturday (30 May) while addressing a food and clothing distribution programme for underprivileged people organised to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
The Prime Minister said genuine respect for the late President could be demonstrated if people from all walks of life fulfilled their responsibilities and extended support from their respective positions.
“On the occasion of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s martyrdom anniversary, each of us should help others in our society in different ways. If we extend support as responsible citizens, that will be a true tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman,” he said.
Making an earnest appeal to the nation, Tarique Rahman urged citizens to contribute, both directly and indirectly, to those engaged in the task of building the country.
“Let us all do that today. From our respective positions, let us support and assist those who are working, directly or indirectly, for the development and progress of the nation,” he said.
Addressing party leaders and activists present at the event, the Prime Minister said he would keep his remarks brief as the programme was being held on a public road, causing inconvenience to commuters.
However, he indicated that discussions on organizational matters and future plans would take place soon.
“Insha Allah, we will sit together again very soon with our organizational leaders and activists. We will discuss ways to further strengthen the party and formulate plans for the future,” he added.
