Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a daylong national workshop on higher education at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University at 10am today.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will organize the workshop titled “Transforming Higher Ed-ucation in Bangladesh: A Roadmap for Sustainable Excellence” with the aim of making the country’s higher education system more modern and sustainable.
This will be the premier’s first official visit at his alma mater since assuming office.
UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed presented the details of the workshop at a press conference yesterday in the UGC conference room this afternoon.
He said the workshop would play an important role in improving the quality of higher education and developing internationally competitive skilled human resources.
He added that it would also help shape the government’s future plans and policy directions regarding higher education.
Based on participants’ opinions, initiatives will be taken to formulate a practical policy roadmap for higher education reform.
Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and Prime Minister’s Education Affairs Adviser Mahdi Amin will attend the inaugural session to be chaired by the UGC chairman.
Following the opening session, five technical sessions will be held focusing on graduate employability, soft skills development, and demand-driven education; industry-academia collaboration and global com-petitiveness; digital transformation, digital literacy, and the integration of artificial intelligence; faculty development, research excellence, and internationalization; and governance, quality assurance, and insti-tutional reform. Discussions and recommendations will be formulated on these issues.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof A B M Obaidul Islam will attend the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruz-zaman, North South University VC Prof Abdul Hannan Chowdhury and State University of Bangladesh VC Prof Md. Akhter Hossain Khan will attend as special guests.
