N’ganj seven murder case
Victims’ families demand verdict

A Correspondent:

Narayanganj: Families of the victims of the Narayanganj seven murder case yesterday formed a human chain demanding swift execution of the verdict.
The program was held around 11am on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Mouchak bus stand in Sid-dhirganj, where relatives and local residents voiced frustration over the delay in enforcing the judgment even after 12 years.
Speaking at the human chain, Selina Islam Beauty, wife of slain panel mayor Nazrul Islam, said the bru-tal killings in 2014 were witnessed by the entire nation.
She alleged that under the influence of Nur Hossain, members of the Rapid Action Battalion carried out inhuman torture and killed seven people before dumping their bodies in the Shitalakkhya River.
“We have been living with immense pain for the past 12 years. Our only demand is to see justice served in our lifetime,” she said, urging the authorities to take immediate steps to execute the verdict and re-store public confidence in law enforcement agencies.
Abul Khayer, father of victim Tajul Islam, said the case has remained pending in the Appellate Division for a long time, which is difficult for them to understand. He called for quick enforcement of the judg-ment.
Shamsun Nahar Nupur, wife of victim Jahangir, said her child still searches for his father, but she can-not bring him back.
“Twelve years have passed, yet the verdict has not been executed. I want to see justice without further delay,” she said, adding that the incident destroyed not just seven lives but seven families.
On April 27, 2014, seven people, including then Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Is-lam and lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. Their bodies were recovered from the Shitalakkhya River three days later.
Two murder cases filed over the incident are currently under hearing in the Appellate Division.
Participants at the human chain urged the authorities to reduce delays and ensure prompt execution of the verdict so that the victims’ families can get justice.
