Two separate investigation committees have been formed by the central Chhatra Dal and Dhaka University authorities following the assault of journalists near the campus.
The central parliament of Chhatra Dal formed a four-member investigation committee on Friday, describing the attack on media personnel as an “undesirable incident.”
Chhatra Dal Office Secretary Jahangir Alam confirmed the move in a press release, noting that the clash occurred at Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday following an offensive Facebook post.
The probe body includes Chhatra Dal Central Vice Presidents Zahir Raihan Ahmed and ABM Ijazul Kabir Ruel, along with Dhaka University unit Vice President Anisur Rahman Khandaker Anik and Senior Joint General Secretary Nasir Uddin Shaown.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir have instructed the committee to submit a written report within five days.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University authorities have formed two separate inquiries. A three-member committee, convened by Salimullah Muslim Hall resident teacher Anwar Hossain, is investigating the student accused of posting the indecent content.
The committee, which includes resident teacher Jawad Ibne Farid and Assistant Proctor Prof Mosaddek Khan, has issued a show-cause notice requiring the student to provide a written explanation within 24 hours. The university has mandated a full report within 48 hours.
In response to the escalating tension, the Provost Standing Committee held an emergency meeting on Thursday night, ordering a ban on all wall writing and graffiti within residential halls to maintain order and campus aesthetics.
Furthermore, the university has formed a six-member committee led by Assistant Proctor Prof Mahbub Kaiser to investigate the physical attack on journalists and students inside the Shahbagh Police Station.
This committee, including Assistant Proctors Prof Shantu Barua, Mosaddek Khan, Rafiqul Islam, Rezaul Karim Sohag, and Amjad Hossain, must submit its findings within three working days.
