A Dhaka court on Friday sent two personal staff of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s military adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique to a four-day remand for interrogation.
The individuals are: Md Chan Mia, the driver, and Md Mahidul Islam, the caretaker.
On Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Biruni Mir issued the order in connection with a murder case of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market area during the July movement.
Earlier on 19 April, Mahidul was arrested from Islambagh in Thakurgaon Sadar, while Chan Mia was arrested from the Bhashantek area in Dhaka. The following day, they were placed on a four-day remand.
After the completion of the previous remand, the investigating officer, Inspector Md Amzad Hossain Talukder of the Detective Branch of Police, produced them before the court again and filed a petition seeking a seven-day remand for further interrogation.
According to the case details, on 19 July 2024, businessman Abdul Wadud was killed by gunfire during protests in the Nilkhet area of New Market during the July uprising.
Following the incident, Abdul Wadud’s brother-in-law, Abdur Rob, filed a murder case at New Market Police Station.
