Narayanganj fire under control; 20 jhut warehouses, shops burnt

Staff Reporter:

At least 20 business establishments, including small shops and jhut warehouses, were burnt in a major fire that erupted near the Narayanganj District Jail at 7:15pm on Friday.

Eight firefighting units brought the situation under control around 9:10pm, said Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director at the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

According to locals, the fire first started at a jhut warehouse, but soon spread to other warehouses as well as a motorbike repairing store and a tea stall. The warehouses are located in the Shastapur area beside the jail, on Dhaka- Narayanganj link road.

No casualty was reported. Fire service officials and other authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the financial damages.
