Staff Reporter:

A Chattogram court on Thursday granted bail to former ISKCON leader and spokesperson of the Sanatani Jagaran Jote Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a case filed by former state minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin.

Judicial Magistrate Md Shakhawat Hossain granted the bail after a petition was submitted on behalf of Chinmoy, confirmed the court Bench Assistant Mizanur Rahman.

However, since Chinmoy has been serving in jail in several cases, there is no scope of his release now.

Notably, former state minister of for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin filed the case in 2023 accusing six persons including Chinmoy on charge of land grabbing, intimidation, and assault in the Mekhal area of Hathazari upazila in the district.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted report in the case upon completion of investigation earlier and a court ordered to show Chinmoy arrested in the case.

Meanwhile, Chinmoy earlier was arrested in a sedition case. A court ordered to send him to jail in the case on 26 November in 2024.

At least 20 people were injured as the agitated supporters of him clashed with police at that time. Lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was brutally hacked to death by the unruly supporters at one stage of the violence.

Four days after the incident, Alif’s father Jamal Uddin filed a case with the Kotwali police station accusing 31 identified and some 10-15 unidentified persons.

On 25 August, the court accepted charge sheet in the case against 39 accused, including Chinmoy.
