The government has revived the “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” on 7 November, declaring it as a national holiday.
The government also decided to observe 6 July as the Rural Development Day, during a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani announced the development at a post-meeting press briefing held around 8:15pm on Thursday night.
The “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” was observed by President Ziaur Rahman, President Hussein Muhammad Ershad and the BNP-led governments.
The 2006-08 caretaker government decided to annul the national day, and the successive governments did not restore it.
Separately, on 6 September 2024, under the initiative of the Prof Yunus-led interim government the UN General Assembly decided to observe 6 July as the World Rural Development Day.
The BNP-led government has decided to officially observe the day in Bangladesh, but no public holiday will be observed on this occasion.
