PM takes responsibility for families of Keraniganj fire victims

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the families of those killed and injured in a fire at a gas-lighter manufacturing factory in Kadamtali, Keraniganj.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said this while visiting the place of occurrence.

He said each family of the deceased will receive Tk200,000 from labour and employment ministry.

He said the factory owner and others responsible will be brought under legal action, adding that the prime minister will be informed so that unsafe and hazardous factories are not allowed to operate in densely populated areas.

Arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured, he further said.

According to the Fire Service control room, they received information about the fire at 1:13pm at the Kadamtali gas lighter manufacturing factory.

So far, five bodies have been recovered from the site, but their identities have not yet been confirmed.

One injured person has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Earlier, seven units of the Fire Service brought the fire under control after about one hour and fifteen minutes of frantic efforts.
