River embankment work to be fully corruption-free: Anee

A Correspondent:

Lakshmipur: Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee yesterday assured that the river embankment work will be carried out with full transparency and without any corruption.
He made these remarks after inspecting the riverbank protection embankment project in the Matabbarhat area of Kamalnagar upazila, which is being carried out at a cost of Taka 3,100 crore.
Construction of the 37-kilometer embankment is currently underway in Ramgati and Kamalnagar upazi-las.
The minister criticized past government, saying, “Those who were in power before were looting funds meant for the project and smuggling money abroad. They are now under investigation.”
He added that departmental action would be taken against officials involved in corruption, noting that previous mismanagement had deprived local people of essential protections.
Highlighting the impact of inadequate embankments, the minister said, “Residents of these riverine areas have lost homes and land, and crop production has been affected. Protecting them from the erosion of the Meghna River is our top priority.”
He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is committed to the development of local communities.
Anee instructed the companies involved to complete the work quickly so that tangible progress is visible before the next monsoon, and urged vigilance to maintain the quality of the project.
The event was attended by Whip ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan, MP Md. Shahadat Hossain Selim, BNP dis-trict unit member secretary Sahab Uddin Sabu, joint convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman Hasib, Bang-ladesh Football Federation Vice President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, BNP Kamalnagar upazila unit president Nurul Huda Chowdhury, and general secretary M Didar Hossain, among others.
