We are satisfied with voting despite a few isolated incidents: Nahid

Staff Reporter:

Nahid Islam, the 11-party alliance candidate and National Citizen Party convener, has expressed satisfaction with voter turnout in the 13th national parliamentary election.

Following years of controversial polling, Nahid hailed the active participation as a victory for the people’s mandate. He also urged supporters to remain vigilant until the final count.

“Through the people’s mandate, a new journey for Bangladesh will begin tomorrow,” said the Dhaka-11 candidate.

After 17 years of three controversial elections, nearly 127 million voters exercised their franchise afresh this time. Previous elections under the ousted Awami League government—2014’s “one-sided” vote, 2018’s “midnight election,” and 2024’s “I-Dummy election”—faced widespread criticism, with many voters claiming they were unable to cast their ballots.

This year, observers say such complaints have largely been addressed.
