Staff Reporter:

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 is scheduled to pronounce its judgment today in a case filed over crimes against humanity committed in the city’s Chankharpul area on August 5, 2024, when six people were brutally killed.
The tribunal was earlier set to pronounce the judgment on January 20, but later refixed the date to Janu-ary 26 as the verdict could not be readied within the scheduled time.

The first four accused are yet to be arrested and are being tried in absentia.
The prosecution filed the formal charge against all eight accused on May 25, marking the first formal charge filed at the ICT in cases arising from the July-August mass uprising.
The six victims-Shahriar Khan Anas, Sheikh Mahdi Hasan Zunayed, Md Yakub, Md Rakib Hawlader, Md Ismamul Haque, and Manik Miah-were killed in Chankharpul on August 5, 2024.
