Journo Shaukat Mahmood held

Detective police detained Shaukat Mahmood, journalist, political leader and former president of the Jati-ya Press Club, from city’s Malibagh area yesterday.
A team of DB police picked him up from his residence, Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Media and Pub-lic Relations Division) Talebur Rahman said.
However, it was not clear in which case the senior journalist was detained.
On April 25 this year, a new political party named Janata Party Bangladesh was formed after his initia-tive.
Actor Ilias Kanchan was the chairman and Shaukat Mahmood was elected the secretary general of the party.
Shaukat Mahmood, once a vice-chairman of the BNP, was expelled from the party on March 21, 2023.
