ICT for charges in disappearance case

The prosecution at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday pleaded for framing charges against 13 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case filed over enforced disap-pearances and torture at the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) during the previous Awami League govern-ment.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam argued for framing five specific charges of enforced disap-pearance and torture against the accused. Three of the 13 accused, Sheikh Md Sarwar Hossain, Md Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui, and Ahmed Tanvir Mazhar Siddiqui, were produced before the court dur-ing yesterday’s hearing.
At the end of yesterday’s hearing, Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumder, chairman of the three judges’ panel of the ICT-1, adjourned the hearing till December 9. The defence is scheduled to take part in hear-ing on discharge petition filed for the accused, on that day.
The first tribunal on October 8 took cognisance of charges against 30 accused, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in two cases filed over enforced disappearances and torture carried out at the Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) Cell and the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) during the Awami League regime.
The prosecution brought five charges in the case against 13 people, including Sheikh Hasina and her former security and defence adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, over the crimes committed at the JIC.
The other accused in the case are- Md Akbar Hossain, Md Saiful Abedin, Md Saiful Alam, Md Tabrej Shams Chowdhury, Hamidul Haque, Mohammad Touhidul Islam, Sheikh Md Sarwar Hossain, Kabir Ahammed, Md Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui, Ahmed Tanvir Mazhar Siddiqui and Mokhchurul Haque,
The prosecution brought another five charges against 17 people, including Sheikh Hasina and her former security and defence adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, over the crimes committed at the TFI.
The other accused in the case are- Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Benazir Ahmed, M Khurshid Hossain, Barrister Md Harun Ur Rashid, Anwar Latif Khan, Md Jahangir Alam, Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, KM Azad, Md Qamrul Hasan, Md Mahabub Alam, Abdullah Al Momen, Md Sarwar Bin Qashem, Md Khairul Islam, Md Moshiur Rahman Jewel and Saiful Islam Suman.
