‘Khaleda responding to provided treatment’

Staff Reporter:

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain yesterday said that Khaleda Zia was responding to the treatment being provided by her medical team.
“Madam Zia is maintaining the treatment. She is able to receive the procedures the doctors are adminis-tering. Please pray for her so she can continue the treatment and recover,” Dr Zahid told reporters in front of Evercare Hospital in the capital last night.
He said doctors in Bangladesh are consulting with specialists in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Chi-na and the United States on her ongoing treatment. “Her treatment is continuing and will remain so based on these joint discussions,” he added.
Dr Zahid said arrangements have been made to ensure the BNP chief receives the best medical care available. “We will inform everyone once the medical board advises that she needs to be transferred abroad,” he said.
According to him, Khaleda Zia’s condition has remained stable for the past three days. “Medically, we say she is able to tolerate and accept the treatment she is being given,” he noted.
Dr. Zahid urged BNP leaders and activists not to gather at the hospital unnecessarily, saying that some 300 other patients are also admitted there.
“We request everyone to avoid creating crowds so that treatment activities of other patients are not dis-rupted. Stay in your respective areas and pray for her recovery according to your religious practices,” he said.
