BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia remains in an extremely critical health condition, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday.
He spoke after Jumma prayers at a doa and munajat gathering in Naya Paltan, held for Khaleda Zia’s recovery.
Mirza Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia made a major contribution to the struggle for democracy, fighting for it throughout her life. He noted that she endured imprisonment and political persecution. “We know she has remained hospitalised for the past two days, and last night doctors said her condition is extremely critical,” he said.
He added that the BNP leadership urged people across the country to pray for her recovery, and mosques nationwide offered special prayers. “Today, after Friday prayers at the Naya Paltan mosque, we all prayed to Allah for Begum Khaleda Zia’s full recovery. May Allah grant her complete healing,” he said.
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and other central leaders attended the gathering.
