Body formed to probe Korail Slum fire

The Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) has formed a five-member committee to probe the devastat-ing fire into Korail Slum in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within 15 working days, Md Shahjahan Sikder, assistant director FSCD, Headquarters confirmed.
Five members of the committee are: FSCD deputy director (operation and maintenance) Md Mamunur Rashid, assistant director, Dhaka, Kazi Nazmuzzaman, deputy assistant director Atish Chakma, senior station officer, Tejgaon, Md Nazim Uddin Sarker and warehouse inspector Md Sohrab Hossain.
The committee has been tasked with finding out the cause behind the fire and ascertaining the losses caused by the blaze.
The fire that broke out in the Korail Slum in the capital’s Tejgaon area was fully doused around 9:30 am yesterday after 16 hours of strenuous efforts, officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) said.
Earlier, the fire service announced that 19 fire-fighting units with five hours of fanatic efforts brought the fire under control at 10:35 pm on Tuesday.
The fire started at 5:22 pm on Tuesday. No casualties have been reported so far.
