Voter regis begins for expatriates

Voter registration for expatriate Bangladeshi citizens living in 16 countries—including the United States, Canada and Australia—began yesterday.
Eligible Bangladeshis residing abroad can complete their registration through the “Postal Vote BD” App and the process will continue until November 28, according to a handout.
The remaining 13 other countries where registration has been starting yesterday are: New Zealand, Mexi-co, Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Honduras, Haiti, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and the Bahamas.
According to sources at the Bangladesh Election Commission, the voter registration process for expatri-ate Bangladeshis living in East Asia, South America and Africa will also remain open until November 28.
This initiative marks a historic step, as the Bangladesh Election Commission has, for the first time, ena-bled expatriate citizens to cast their votes through “postal ballots”.
To support applicants, the Election Commission has launched a 24-hour helpdesk for assistance related to registration via the Postal Vote App.
