NID service suspended for electoral roll preparations

The Election Commission has suspended the national identity card (NID) services (correction and migra-tion of voters) for the sake of preparation and printing the electoral rolls ahead of the next national elec-tion likely to be held in early February 2026.
“The NID services remain suspended from 4pm on Monday till further order,” Director (Operations) of the National Identity Registration Wing Md Saiful Islam told the media.
The Election Commission on November 18 last published the final electoral rolls showing that the total number of the country’s voters is nearly 12.77 crores ahead of the 13th parliamentary election.
The final electoral rolls include 64,814,907 male voters, 62,879,042 female voters, and 1,234 third-gender voters.
The newly published final rolls also include those who reached the age of 18 by October 31, 2025, mak-ing them eligible to vote for the first time in the upcoming national election.
The EC will arrange the national election and referendum on reform charter simultaneously in a single day in early February 2026.
The Election Commission updated the voter lists for the third time within the current year – the first one is on March 2, 2025, the second one is on August 31, 2025 and the third one is on November 18, 2025.
During the last 12th parliamentary election held on January 7, 2024, the total number of voters was around 119.69 million throughout the country.
