Outsiders banned from entering National Eidgah

Staff Reporter:

The Supreme Court authorities have prohibited entry of outsiders into the National Eidgah ground adja-cent to the Bangladesh Supreme Court to ensure the overall security of the apex court and nearby institu-tions.
An official notification signed by High Court Division Deputy Registrar (Administration and Judicial) Md Atickus Samad, said the Bangladesh Supreme Court is the highest institution of the country’s judici-ary where the Hon’ble Chief Justice and Judges of both the Appellate and High Court Divisions conduct judicial functions.
“Several hundred thousand case records, including those of many important and high-profile cases, are preserved in the court. It has recently been observed that movement of outsiders and unidentified persons has increased in the National Eidgah and the fountain area adjacent to the main gate used by the Hon’ble Chief Justice to enter the Supreme Court,” it added.
Terming the situation a potential threat to the security of the Supreme Court and the International Crimes Tribunal, the authorities said outsiders’ entry into the National Eidgah ground has been strictly prohibited.
It added that the decision has been taken to ensure security of the Supreme Court compound, the Interna-tional Crimes Tribunal, the Attorney General’s Office, the Supreme Court Bar Association building, and surrounding areas.
The notification was issued with the approval of the competent authority.
