July warrior seeks removal from gazette over corruption

Staff Reporter:

Citing the government’s failure to take effective steps in building a corruption-free country in line with the spirit of the July Mass Uprising, a “July warrior” named Abrar Nadim (27) from Faridpur has applied to withdraw his name from the official gazette published in this connection.

He submitted the application to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Faridpur around 1pm on Thursday.

In the application addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Abrar Nadim alias Itu requested that his name be removed from the list of July warriors mentioned in Gazette-2489 and that all government benefits, including the monthly allowance, be cancelled.

His home is in the Kuthibari area under Faridpur Sadar upazila.

On behalf of the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Sohrab Hossain received the application.

Confirming the matter, ADC Sohrab Hossain said they received an application for voluntary withdrawal from the July warriors gazette and related facilities.

“Necessary steps will be taken in this regard,” he added.

In his application, Abrar mentioned that he was injured during the July movement but expressed frustration that the interim government had failed to keep its promise to build a corruption-free and looting-free nation even after more than a year.

He also alleged that the interim government and political parties are engaged in inconsistent activities.

The application further stated, “In Faridpur, irregularities in different administrative sectors remain the same. The syndicate still exists and corruption continues, which everyone knows. Therefore, I am formally withdrawing my name from the gazette and the monthly allowance which I have never taken.”

Talking to journalists, Abrar Nadim said, “We are not seeing any reflection of the cause we fought for. Everyone is busy with their own interests. The interim and local governments have failed to take effective steps to build a corruption-free nation. So, I have decided to withdraw my name from the gazette and related benefits.”
