Staff Reporter:

Vice Chair of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) Prof Ali Riaz on Thursday said the Commission will place a clear, specific and comprehensive recommendation before the government for the implementation of the July National Charter 2025 within its extended tenure that ends on 31 October.

“The tenure of the commission has already been extended until 31 October. We, on behalf of the Commission, would like to make it clear that within this term of the Commission, we will present a clear, specific and complete recommendation to the government on the implementation of the Charter,” he said at a press briefing held in the evening at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki was present at the briefing held on the eve of the signing ceremony of the ‘July National Charter 2025’ to be held at 4pm on Friday (17 Oct) at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Prof Riaz said the Commission would continue its utmost efforts within the remaining period to ensure the July National Charter to be implemented.

“We believe the government will take concrete steps within this time to begin the implementation process of the July Charter and ensure that it proceeds properly with participation of all,” he said.

Prof Ali Riaz hoped that all political parties and alliances would sign the July Charter on Friday amid a festive atmosphere keeping aside their differences in views.

He said the Commission will submit its full report to the government within this tenure (31 October), which will comprehensively outline the entire process. “

The report, comprising around 3,000 pages arranged in eight volumes, will be submitted before the end of our tenure,” he added.

About the signing ceremony, the NCC vice chair said all necessary preparations have almost been completed for the event.

The political parties and chief adviser and also head of the National Consensus Commission will sign the charter which is a document of political agreement for state reform.

In this regard, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said politicians and representatives from all classes of the society will be in the signing ceremony.

An audio-visual presentation will be screened in the event, he said.

Earlier on Wednesday (15 Oct), chief adviser and head of the National Consensus Commission expressed optimism that the signing ceremony of the ‘July National Charter 2025’ will become an occasion of celebration for the whole nation.

“You have made it possible which appeared to be impossible. We will join the ceremony on Friday in a festive mood and sign it. This is our hope and we will spread it to the whole nation,” he said.

The NCC on 14 October last sent the final version of the July Charter, containing 84 major reform recommendations and a seven-point commitment proposal for its implementation, to the political parties.

The Commission earlier sought names of two representatives from each of 33 political parties and alliances to sign the July National Charter 2025 prepared in a bid to reform the State Structure and its key institutions following the 2024 July Mass Uprising that ousted Sheikh Hasina’s regime.
