NCP says it will not sign July Charter unless three demands met

Staff Reporter:

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced its stance on signing the July Charter, stating that it will withhold its signature unless three specific demands are met.

Speaking at the conference, NCP convener Nahid Islam said, “Signing the charter without a proper legal framework would render it meaningless.”

The press briefing, held at the party’s temporary office, also addressed the political reform process and the July Charter itself.

Among the three demands presented by the NCP for signing the charter, the key points include:

The draft of the implementation order for the July Charter must be made public before the signing ceremony.

The order must be issued by Prof Muhammad Yunus, acting as chief adviser and in accordance with the “sovereign will of the people.”

The legitimacy of the July Charter must be rooted in the July popular uprising.

The NCP emphasised that these conditions are essential to ensure that the charter is legally valid and reflective of the public mandate.
