The Conscience Flotilla, a vessel in the current wave of humanitarian missions to Gaza, continues its journey despite storm warnings and reports of attacks on ships ahead, said Bangladeshi activist and photojournalist Shahidul Alam.
From the upper deck, Shahidul, through his Facebook post on Thursday, described how the captain accelerated through last night’s storm to stay ahead of dangerous weather.
“The captain increased speed so we could stay ahead of the storm. The storm and the lightning have gone. It has also stopped raining,” added Shahidul as he reported from the largest and last of the vessels.
Though trailing behind the rest of the flotilla, Shahidul said the mission remains resolute, “We continue on our path to Gaza, undeterred by this intimidation. We will break the siege. Palestine will be free.”
Shahidul joined the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) as the first Bangladeshi, in an attempt to break the siege in famine-struck Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid.
