Dengue: Two more die, 396 hospitalised in 24hrs

Two more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 202 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 396 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 48,228 in 2025.

The fatalities included a man and a woman.

The deaths were reported in Chattogram division and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 87 were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 96 in Chattogram division, 90 in Dhaka division, 52 under DNCC, 56 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 15 in Rajshahi division.

DGHS data shows that men account for 60.7% of infections so far this year, while women represent 39.3%.

Currently, 2,344 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

In comparison, dengue killed 575 people in 2024, with 1,01,214 cases recorded. The previous year saw the country’s worst outbreak on record, with 1,705 deaths and 3,21,179 hospitalisations.
