Some of laundered money likely back by Feb: Salehuddin

Staff Reporter:

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Tuesday said a portion of the money siphoned abroad is likely to be recovered by February next year.

The adviser expressed this optimism while speaking to reporters at the secretariat.

He, however, did not specify the amount of money that would be recovered.

Salehuddin said, “The money launderers know all the tricks. It will take time to bring the money back. However, some progress has been made.

“We are holding discussions with legal firms. By February, some of the money may be recovered, while we are preparing the ground to recover the rest.”

When asked whether the new government would continue this initiative or not, the adviser said, “They are obliged to do so. Because, if the process we initiate is not followed, the money cannot be brought back…To repatriate the money, the procedures must be adhered to, and this is the international practice.”
