Shapla Chattar martyrs’ families start to get financial aid

Staff Reporter:

Providing financial aid to the families of martyrs of Shapla Chattar has begun. The Shapla Smrity Sangsad on Friday handed over financial support to some family members of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Hefazat-e-Islami rally in 2013.

The financial assistance programme was inaugurated at a conference room in the capital’s Mohammadpur, General Secretary of Shapla Smrity Sangsad Md Kamal Uddin confirmed.

He said that they would provide cash money to those in need among the martyred families. Each family would be given money to meet their monthly expenses.

According to the organisation’s initial decision, each family would be provided with assistance of Tk10,000 to Tk15,000. However, this amount could vary.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh this year released the names and identities of 93 people who were martyred at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel during a rally on 5 May 2013.

On 27 November 2024, Hefazat submitted a complaint to the prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), accusing fascist ousted Sheikh Hasina and 49 others in connection with the atrocities.

A similar case was filed on 18 August the same year, naming Hasina and 33 others alleging mass killing.
