No GD required for lost NID

Staff Reporter:

The Election Commission (EC) in a notification yesterday confirmed that no general diary (GD) needs to be filed if the National Identity Card (NID) is lost from now on.
The notification signed by Assistant Director (Valid and Verify) Muhammad Sarwar Hossain of the NID Wing of the EC issued on Tuesday.
According to the notification, the provision of submitting GD is exempted to get the second NID in case of losing the first one as per the decision of the EC to make the NID services easier and hassle free.
Under the NID correction crash program, the EC processed 907,662 correction applications in the first six months of 2025. During the same period, a total of 984,356 applications were submitted.
EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that the initiative has significantly reduced citizens’ difficulties regarding NID corrections.
