A court in Dhaka on Saturday placed seven individuals on a four-day remand over the allegation of participating in a flash procession of the Awami League in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order after the police produced them before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for each.
However, the court sent another accused to jail since he is under 18.
Tejgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Abu Esha, also the investigating officer of the case, confirmed the information.
Seven accused who were placed on remand are – Ziaur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Abdur Rahman, Fahim Talukder, Md Feroz Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan, and Omar Faruk.
According to the case statement, after the Jummah prayers on Friday, Awami League leaders and activists allegedly brought out a sudden procession in the Tejgaon area, prompting the Detective Branch of police to launch an operation.
During the drive, nine participants of the procession were arrested.
A case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with the Tejgaon Industrial Area police station.
In May, the interim government banned all activities of the Awami League and its associated and affiliated organisations, on allegations of killings, genocide, crimes against humanity, and other grave offences during the July Uprising.
