Govt to provide scholarships to NU students

Staff Reporter:

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has distributed the quota of merit and gen-eral scholarships for the current fiscal year 2025-26 based on the results of the National University’s Bachelor’s (honours) and Bachelor’s (pass) examinations.
It has instructed to distribute scholarships equally among the students, an office order signed by DSHE Director General Professor Dr Muhammad Azad Khan said yesterday.
It said that in light of the previous directives of the Ministry of Education, the number, quota and amount of money under the revenue sector have been newly determined.
Out of these, 18 merit scholarships and 375 general scholarships will be given at the undergraduate (honors) level. The monthly amount of merit scholarships has been fixed at Taka 1,125 and the one-time annual grant is Taka 1,800.
On the other hand, the monthly amount of general scholarship will be Taka 450 and one-time grant Taka 900.
These scholarships will be valid for one year. Nine merit scholarships and 300 general scholarships have been determined at the graduation (pass) level.
The monthly rate of merit scholarship will be Taka 1,050 and the annual grant Taka 1,800.
On the other hand, the monthly rate of general scholarship has been determined at Taka 375 and one-time grant Taka 600. The duration of this scholarship is two years.
In the case of general scholarship, two male and two female students will be given scholarships in each district. The remaining 44 scholarships will be distributed on the basis of merit.
The office order stated that 50 percent of the merit and general scholarships will be reserved for male students and 50 percent for female students in proportion to the number of students.
However, if no eligible female students are found, those facilities can be given to male students.
In addition, the student must be admitted to a higher class to enjoy the scholarship.
At the same time, the scholarship gazette will be published by September 18. After the gazette is pub-lished, it has also been ordered to enter the student information correctly in the designated MIS software.
Several conditions have been set for data entry. These include opening a bank account with online facili-ties in the student’s own name, maintaining identity in the name and bank account, not using agent bank-ing accounts (Bikash, Nagad, etc.), and the head of the institution will be responsible for any mistakes or irregularities in providing information.
