A Dhaka court on Saturday ordered content creator Tawhid Afridi to be sent to jail in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station over the murder of Asadul Haque Babu, tied to last year’s July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyash passed the order canceling his bail petition.
On Saturday, the Investigation Officer of the case, Md Erfan, pleaded for his detention, and the defence counsel asked for his bail.
After the hearing, the court ordered to send him to jail.
Earlier on 24 August, a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Tawhid Afridi from Barishal.
According to the case documents, Md Asadul Haque Babu, 24, joined the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Jatrabari area on 5 August 2024, where he was shot in the chest and leg at around 2:30pm.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
On 30 August last year, Babu’s father, Joynal Abedin, filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station against 25 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On 18 August 2025, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin had placed Afridi’s father, Md Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of MyTV, on a five-day remand in the same case.
