We have to establish human rights in country: Farida

Staff Reporter:

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter yesterday said that we want to build together such a coun-try keeping in mind the sacrifice of the July warriors where human rights would not be violated.
“We have to keep in mind that many students, youths and general masses have embraced martyrdom and became crippled by losing their eyes in the July Mass Upsurge,” she said.
The adviser said this while inaugurating a newly constructed five-story academic building of Dhaka Cen-tral Girls High School here as the chief guest. Later, she joined a reception accorded to the meritorious students, who passed the SSC examination in 2025 at the same venue.
She said Begum Rokeya had established many educational institutions for Muslim women so that they could take education in an independent environment where various extra-curricular activities and cultural functions were organized along with providing education.
The adviser said reading book is not the only way of acquiring knowledge as the history has changed many times. In this connection, she said teachers should teach the real history of the country to the stu-dents to make them aware about the country and the nation as well.
Referring to security issues of the girl students, Farida Akhter said that the district administration, police administration and local political leaders would have to take the responsibilities to ensure safety and se-curity of the students in and outside the educational institutions.
She categorically said that the dropout of the girl students due to eve teasing won’t be tolerated anymore in the new Bangladesh.
Urging the students to come forward for protecting country’s environment, Farida Akhter said the stu-dents should engage themselves at least a day in a week for protecting the environment of their institu-tions and its surrounding areas.
In this regard, she called upon all to reduce the use of polythene bags and others plastic goods, which are considered hazardous for human health and the environment as well.
She called upon the girl students to be self-confident in every aspect and said that they should acquire knowledge on women repression laws.
Regarding child marriage, she said teachers, guardians and the society should remain aware in curbing child marriage in society.
With Governing Body Convener of the school Delwar Hossain in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by BNP central leader Hamidur Rahman Hamid, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Md Wares Ansari and Superintendent Engineer of Dhaka Metro Menhazul Haque.
Acting Head Master of the school Nurjahan Begum delivered the address of welcome while Nawseba Islam addressed the function on behalf of the students.
