Army forms probe body over allegations against senior officer

Staff Reporter:

The Bangladesh Army has formed a high-level investigation board to look into allegations of abuse against a senior army officer, following claims made on social media by the ex-wife of the former army officer.

According to an official statement, the Bangladesh Army had already been informed of the allegations before they surfaced online and had initiated an inquiry with due seriousness.

Given the complainant’s social standing and the sensitive nature of the case, the Army said it has been proceeding cautiously, in accordance with military law.

The accused senior officer has already been relieved of his duties pending investigation, and disciplinary measures are currently under process, Bangladesh Army said in a facebook post on Friday.

The statement further noted that the complainant’s former husband had previously been convicted in a sensational criminal case, dismissed from service, and is now serving a prison sentence.

Normally, dismissed personnel are not entitled to medical care, official housing, or other facilities. However, as a humanitarian consideration – because the dismissed officer’s child was preparing for the SSC examinations — the family was temporarily allowed to stay in government housing, the Army said.

The Bangladesh Army reaffirmed its strict commitment to moral values, discipline, and accountability, emphasising that it does not tolerate unethical or unlawful activities.

All allegations against its personnel, the statement said, are thoroughly investigated, and proven offenses result in strict action under the law.
