DMP issues traffic guideline

Staff Reporter:

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a detailed traffic guideline for today’s cultural programme and drone show at Manik Mia Avenue, in observance of July Mass Uprising Day.

In a statement signed by Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, the DMP urged city residents to avoid the roads surrounding the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and Manik Mia Avenue and to follow the prescribed diversions and alternative routes.

“We seek the full cooperation of all city dwellers in this regard,” the statement said.

Vehicles travelling from the north via Mirpur Road or from Mohammadpur via Asadgate toward Khejur Bagan and Farmgate will continue straight south via the eastern end of Dhanmondi 27 and Mirpur Road, said the statement.

Those coming from the south of Mirpur Road at Science Lab Crossing toward Khejur Bagan and Farmgate will proceed north without turning at Aarong Crossing, turn right at Ganabhaban Crossing, and head toward Lake Road, Urojahaj Crossing, and then Bijoy Sarani Crossing.

Drivers approaching Dhanmondi from the elevated expressway via Indira Road and heading toward Manik Mia Avenue will turn right at Urojahaj Crossing, then left at Lake Road, and left again at Ganabhaban Crossing before continuing south via Mirpur Road. To reduce congestion, vehicles using the elevated expressway bound for Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur are advised to use the FDC (Hatirjheel) ramp instead of the Farmgate exit ramp for a smoother flow of traffic.

Those travelling from Farmgate toward Khejur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, or Mirpur will go straight to Bijoy Sarani, then turn left at either Urojahaj Crossing or Lake Road. Meanwhile, vehicles approaching from the north via Mirpur Road toward Farmgate or Sonargaon will turn left at Ganabhaban Crossing and continue via Lake Road, Urojahaj, and Bijoy Sarani to reach Farmgate.

Similarly, traffic coming from Mohammadpur via Asadgate toward Khejur Bagan and Farmgate will turn left at Ganabhaban Crossing and then right at Lake Road, continuing through Urojahaj and Bijoy Sarani crossings. Motorists travelling on Manik Mia Avenue are requested to use Syed Mahbub Morshed Road between Agargaon and Shishu Mela.

Attendees arriving in private or hired vehicles are encouraged to park at the Agargaon Old Trade Fair Grounds and walk to the event venue to ease congestion along Manik Mia Avenue.

The DMP appeals to the public for full cooperation to ensure orderly traffic flow and a smooth experience during the day-long celebration marking the July Mass Uprising.
