Ex-CEC Nurul Huda placed on 4-day remand

Staff Reporter:

A Dhaka court on Friday placed former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on four-day remand over alleged poll irregularities committed during his tenure as CEC.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunaid passed the order after police produced him before the court and pleaded for a 10-day remand.

On the night of 22 June, law enforcers arrested Nurul Huda from his residence in the capital’s Uttara area, hours after a case was lodged against him, two other former CECs, deposed fascist prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and others.

Salah Uddin Khan, a member of the BNP’s central executive committee, filed the case with the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, alleging irregularities and vote rigging in the national elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024.

Nurul Huda was the chief election commissioner during the 11th parliamentary election held on 30 December 2018.
