Traffic guideline ahead of Eid

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday issued a traffic guideline for bus terminal-based public transport owners, workers, passengers and pedestrians for ensuring a safe, smooth and hassle free jour-ney on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha.
“We requested all concerned to comply with the following traffic guideline for a safe and hassle free journey ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha,” DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali said in a statement issued yester-day.
In case of emergency, the DMP has requested contact the police control room or the national emergency number 999.
The DMP has sought everyone’s cooperation in this regard.
To public transport owners and workers:
1. Buses must depart from the terminal according to the bus schedule.
2. Passengers cannot be charged more than the prescribed fare.
3. Passengers cannot be mistreated and harassed.
4. The same seat cannot be sold to more than one passenger.
5. Additional passengers cannot be carried on the roof of the bus without a seat.
6. Passengers cannot be carried in goods and animal-carrying vehicles, especially return vehicles.
7. Vehicles must be driven according to the speed limit, and vehicles cannot be driven recklessly and at excessive speeds.
8. Overtaking is prohibited in areas, bends and narrow bridges.
9. Vehicles cannot be driven while intoxicated, drowsy or with a physical illness.
10. Driving without a valid driving license and registration documents is prohibited.
11. Mobile phones or earphones cannot be used while driving and loud music cannot be played in the car.
12. Driving on the wrong side of the road is prohibited.
13. Drivers must be appointed after verifying the validity of the driving license.
14. The driver cannot be forced by the owner to drive for more than five hours continuously and 8 hours a day.
For general passengers:
1. You must board the bus at the specified terminal/counter instead of crossing the road.
2. You must not accept any food or drink offered by a stranger.
3. You must keep your belongings in your own custody/responsibility.
4. You must arrive at the counter/terminal before the scheduled bus departure time.
5. You must use foot over-bridges/underpasses/zebra crossings when crossing the road.
6. It is not allowed to get on and off a moving vehicle and to travel as a passenger in a motor vehicle carrying goods/animals.
For pedestrians:
1. Cross the road through zebra crossings, foot over-bridges and underpasses.
2. Do not cross the road while running or talking on a mobile phone.
3. Walk on the footpath.
