Nahid meets CA, discusses contemporary issues

Staff Reporter:

Nahid Islam, founding convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), met Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus at his official residence, State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, on Thursday.

Nahid paid the courtesy call when the social communication media are flooded with a rumour that the chief adviser is going to step down amid the prevailing chaotic political situation.

After being concerned about the information, Nahid rushed to the chief adviser’s residence and urged him to continue his responsibility for the greater interest of the country and its people.

In response, the chief adviser gave his consent to continue his rules, said the NCP source.

Nahid alone entered the chief adviser’s residence around 7 pm and discussed several issues, relating to the prevailing political chaos, said a source close to the NCP.

Nahid, former adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, confirmed his talks with the chief adviser, but refused to disclose the matter of discussion.

The key coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination took oath as a member of the advisory council of the interim government on 8 August last year against the backdrop of the student-led revolution, culminating in former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.

Later on 25 February, he tendered his resignation to the chief adviser to announce the formation of a new political party on 28 February to uphold the spirit of the July mass upsurge.

Besides, two student representatives, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and Mahfuj Alam, serving as the local government and information advisers, respectively, also met the chief adviser to discuss the overall situation.

Meanwhile, BNP urged the government to remove controversial advisers from their roles to uphold the image and integrity of the interim administration.
