Staff Reporter:
The Police Headquarters has expelled one officer and suspended two other officers for their alleged involvement in ensuring Awami League politician Abdul Hamid left the country early Thursday.
There are allegations that Abdul Hamid is accused in a murder case, and yet he managed to secure police clearance to travel abroad on a flight from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Abdul Hamid left the country for Thailand for medical treatment, it was said.
The expelled police officer is an additional superintendent at the Immigration Police, and the suspended personnel are the officer investigating the lawsuit against Hamid, and a Special Branch officer.
The penalties were approved after a high-level government discussion and an investigation, the Bangladesh Police said in a statement.
The officers failed to follow proper protocol in permitting Hamid’s travel abroad, it added.
On 14 January, the case was filed in Kishoreganj against Hamid and other Awami League bigwigs including Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Obaidul Quader and others.
The ouster of Awami League regime on 5 August last year paved way for filing the case.
