Fakhrul urges govt not to reach any deal undermining national interest

Staff Reporter:

Hinting about the humanitarian corridor between Bangladesh and Myanmar, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday urged the government not to ink any deal with anyone, ignoring the national interest.

“Stay aside from reaching any deal, bypassing the country’s political parties and people, if it goes against the national interest,” Fakhrul made the call while addressing a massive rally held in front of the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters marking May Day.

Earlier, while addressing a programme in Thakurgaon, Fakhrul said that they cannot let the country turn into a sorry state like Gaza by giving humanitarian passage to the civilians of Rakhine state of Myanmar.

He also criticised the government for its move in this regard and said it must hold talks with the country’s political parties before taking such a decision.

Regarding the national election, he also called upon the interim government to implement the agreed-upon reform agenda endorsed by political parties, thereby paving the way for holding the election without delay.

The country is passing through a challenging situation as the fascist government has been defeated, but democracy has not yet been restored.
