Unity forced fascist AL govt to flee country: Ali Riaz

National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz said united efforts of the people have forced the fascist government to flee the country.
“We’ve to move forward by embracing the core spirit of this unity. This is not only our commitment, but our responsibility,” he said, adding, “We’ve this responsibility to those who have struggled to build a democratic, accountable and participatory state for all for the last 53 years,” he said.
Prof Ali Riaz made the remarks at the beginning of the discussion of the commission with the Gono Shonghoti Andolon at the LD Hall of the Parliament Bhaban yesterday.
Commission members Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain and Justice Md Emdadul Haque, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider were present.
Prof Ali Riaz said the reports given by the reform commissions are actually an attempt to address the accumulated crisis in Bangladesh for a long time.
“Not only the implementation of the reform commission reports, we need to create the structure of a democratic state. For this, democratic practices and democratic forces need to be united,” he opined.
The discussion was attended by a 10-member delegation led by the chief coordinator of Gono Shonghoti Andolon, Jonayed Saki, along with the party’s executive coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel, Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, Hasan Maruf Rumi, Monir Uddin Pappu, Bachchu Bhuiyan, Zulhasnain Babu, Imrad Zulkarnain, Tariqul Sujan, Murad Morshed and Deepak Roy.
The reform commissions formed in the first phase- the Constitutional Reform Commission, Public Ad-ministration Reform Commission, Electoral Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission have placed their recommendations.
The important recommendations of them have been sent to 39 political parties in the form of spread-sheets requesting them to provide specific opinions on those.
So far, the National Consensus Commission has received opinions from 35 parties on the reform and the commission has so far held discussions with 18 political parties in this regard.
